As part of the Danish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, an informal meeting of research ministers was held in Copenhagen, Denmark, from 16 to 17 July 2025.

Two discussions took place during the meeting. The first focused on critical technologies that play a key role in the future of Europe and its competitiveness. The importance of pooling resources to achieve strategic investments in critical infrastructure was emphasised, following the example of major infrastructure projects such as CERN, EuroHPC, European space infrastructures, and IFMIF-DONES. The need to bridge the gap in private financing and to strengthen cooperation between the academia and business sectors was also highlighted, as this is crucial for unlocking the full growth potential of research and innovation. On that occasion, Minister Fuchs presented several examples of good practice in linking academia and business sector.

The second discussion addressed the Multiannual Financial Framework. During the discussion, Minister Fuchs expressed his satisfaction for the continuation of a standalone framework programme for research and innovation, underlined the importance of excellent research contributing to technological development, and stressed the need to strengthen research security and safeguard academic freedom.
