Croatian experts on the recognition of informal and non-formal learning participated in an online study visit to Sweden on 11 February 2021. Ms Pernilla Hultberg (
University of Gothenburg) and Ms Susanne Rath (
University West) primarily talked about their roles as coordinators for the RPL and about the "
validation mapper officer" – a professional who supports applicants to study programmes in going through the recognition procedure.
Both experts are involved in the application process to the first level of higher education, which can in Sweden include just one or two small courses, and not necessarily the whole study programme. They also presented the process itself and the outcomes in detail. The procedures at higher levels are done more rarely as the process is rather long and the recognition procedure is sometimes more demanding for the student than taking the course.
They also presented the Validation Network of Swedish Universities which they both find very useful for such a complex field, enabling them not only to share experiences, but also to set some common standards and methodologies. Since they find the network very useful, they ensured that it is formalised by signing an inter-university cooperation agreement ensuring its sustainability.
The RPL study visit to Sweden is one of the activities of the Erasmus+ project SIDERAL (
Social and International Dimension of Education and Recognition of Acquired Learning).
