The Ministry of Science and Education and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) are implementing a project entitled "Assessing the Digital Readiness of Croatian Higher Education Institutions" funded from the Technical Support Instrument of the Directorate-General for Structural Reform Support of the European Commission (DG REFORM). The project analyses the current state of digitalization in higher education in the Republic of Croatia and provides technical support and a strategic basis for future digital transformation.
As part of the project, a survey was conducted on digital maturity of higher education institutions in Croatia, by the Ministry of Science and Education in cooperation with the Croatian Academic and Research Network – CARNET in March and April this year.
Following the results of the research and the need to examine the state of digital readiness of higher education institutions on the field, the OECD delegation visited Croatia in the period between 16 and 25 May 2022. During the visit, the delegation conducted interviews with representatives of administrations, IT services, teachers and students of several public and private universities in Zagreb, Zadar, Å ibenik and Split.
Also, meetings were held with stakeholders from the higher education system who actively participate in policy making and implementation of digitalization of higher education – including representatives of the Rectors' Conference, National Council for Science, Higher Education and Technological Development, Council of Polytechnics and Colleges of the Republic of Croatia, Agency for Science and Higher Education (ASHE), CARNET and the University Computing Center (SRCE).
As part of the visit, an expert seminar was organised for higher education stakeholders on effective investment in digital infrastructure in the Croatian higher education system. The seminar was held on 23 May 2022 in a hybrid form, and was attended by foreign experts in the field of digitalization and digital transformation of higher education who shared experiences of other countries of the European Higher Education Area on topics related to digital transformation and investment in digital infrastructure in higher education, as well as improving teachers’ competences in developing digital educational content and programmes.
