Director-General of the Directorate for Science and Technology, Hrvoje Meštrić, PhD, participated in a high-level
conference within the G7 meeting on Mediterranean and Atlantic Ocean health and coastal resilience held in Bologna, Italy, on 11 July 2024.
The conference was organised in the framework of the Italian G7 Presidency by the Italian Ministry of Universities and Research in collaboration with the European Commission. The conference was aimed to showcase international efforts to
restore marine biodiversity, enhance climate resilience, and mitigate the impacts of extreme weather events on their coastal communities.
During the conference, there was a ceremony of Endorsement of the Mission Charter. The Charter was followed by an exchange of views and national activities in the field of sea and water. On this occasion, Director Meštrić on behalf of the Minister of Science, Education and Youth Professor Radovan Fuchs, Ph.D. welcomed all present and outlined Croatia’s priorities and activities on the topic of ocean and water.
He pointed out that the
National Recovery and Resilience Plan contains goals such as strengthening competitiveness and the green transition of the economy, energy transition for a sustainable economy, improving the water economy and improving the use of natural resources. He singled out several of the numerous examples of projects, initiatives and programmes in which Croatia participates and contributes to the preservation of oceans and waters. Within the framework of Horizon Europe alone, the
Mission Ocean and Waters 22 Croatian entities participate in 14 projects, while the other projects that have been singled out are
SeaTechHub, Teaming project
MARBLE, as well as
PRIMA a partnership in which Croatia has been participating since 2017.
Following the statements, two sessions were held on the topics of EU flagship actions to restore, reduce pollution, monitor and resilient the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, as well as international projects and initiatives from the Mediterranean to the Atlantic.
