The Ministry of Science, Education and Youth of the Republic of Croatia is host to the 58th meeting of PISA Governing Board (PGB).
PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment), a global survey carried out among 15-year-olds, provides insight into educational quality and equality in more than 80 countries, by analysing students' key competences along with a wide range of educational factors such as student welfare and aspirations as well as pedagogical approaches. The PISA Governing Board manages the programme, specifies priorities in the context of OECD goals and supervises the attainment of these priorities during the programme implementation.
In his address, Minister Fuchs mentioned that since 2006, when Croatia participated in the PISA assessment for the first time, the survey has had a significant impact on the Croatian education system and the adoption of quality education policies. PISA has made it possible to understand the advantages, weaknesses and main challenges of the Croatian education system in a clearer and more objective manner. Also, the Minister took the opportunity to thank the OECD representatives for supporting Croatia in its accession to this international organisation. Following a debate on Croatia’s accession to the OECD in the area of education held last week in Paris, a key step was made towards completing the accession process to the OECD - in the area of education and skills, which is a major turning point when it comes to Croatia’s continuous development and progress.
This important event was hosted by the city of Dubrovnik in the first Croatian akademis - Akademis Academia, gathering more than 120 national representatives from 60 different countries within the framework of this governing body.
On the margins of the meeting, the minister held a short meeting with Ms Dogdurkul Kendirbaeva, the Minister of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic, highlighting Croatia's readiness to share its experiences in developing the education and science system with Kyrgyzstan. In addition, more concrete cooperation in the areas of education and science was agreed upon, including both student and expert exchange.
In addition, Minister Fuchs held a meeting with Ms Christine Choi, a Hong Kong representative responsible for education, on which occasion both sides expressed their satisfaction with the results of education projects implemented so far, while highlighting mutual readiness to enhance current cooperation.
