The Director General of the Directorate for Science and Technology, Hrvoje Meštrić, PhD, took part in a ceremony held in Valletta on Friday, 24 April 2026, marking the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Science, Education and Youth of the Republic of Croatia and the Ministry for Education, Youth, Research and Innovation of the Republic of Malta.
The Memorandum was prepared in cooperation with the Maltese government agency Xjenza Malta, and its objective is to establish a structured framework for cooperation between the two countries in the space sector. It aims to further strengthen scientific, technological, industrial and educational cooperation, in line with the national priorities and international commitments of both countries.
Particular emphasis is placed on jointly making use of the potential of Croatia and Malta as small yet agile space actors, including the launch of joint thematic calls for research and innovation, support for reciprocal mobility and knowledge exchange, as well as coordination of outreach and public engagement activities.
The Memorandum was signed in the framework of the ESA Industry Days for PECS and Associate Members, held from 23 to 24 April 2026 in Malta. On behalf of the Republic of Malta, the Memorandum was signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Education, Youth, Research and Innovation of Malta, Matthew Vella.
Director General Meštrić emphasized that the signing of the Memorandum represents an important step in strengthening cooperation between Croatia and Malta in the space sector, highlighting the importance of international collaboration for the further development of capacities and the effective use of opportunities in the space sector.
