EU research ministers exchange views on new targets for research and innovation investment
Minister of Science and Education Prof. Radovan Fuchs, Ph.D. participated in the informal video meeting of Ministers responsible for Research, which was held on November 27, 2020. EU ministers discussed the newly proposed research and innovation investment targets presented in the Commission's Communication „A new ERA for Research and Innovation“.
EU ministers have agreed on the necessity of reaching the 3% target for R&I investment along with utilization of synergies between different instruments and transfer of research results to the industry. Common EU values and principles have also been emphasized as main guide when acting.
Minister Fuchs has emphasized that the proposed goals are aligned with those proposed in the National development strategy 2030. Incentives and modernization of legislative framework should result in bigger investments. Minister Fuchs has also pointed out that we are open for supporting mechanisms that the Commission might provide for reaching the set goals. Finally, Minister also pointed out the importance of having a discussion on the qualitative targets, especially those relating to national research systems.
Following the exchange of views, a state of play was presented for Horizon Europe and European institute of innovation and technology along with the European partnership files and progress in area of Open Science. Additionally, Joint Opinion on Improving pandemic preparedness and management has been presented to Member States and incoming Portuguese Presidency has presented its planned activities and events in the first half of 2021.
