Minister Fuchs attends 70th anniversary of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN)
Celebration of 70th anniversary of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), one of the world's leading research centers, took place in Geneva on October 1st 2024.
Minister of Science, Education and Youth, Professor Radovan Fuchs, participated in this important along with Mr. Zvonimir Frka-Petešić, the Head of the Prime Minister's Office, Mr. Gordan Markotić, Permanent Chargé d'affaires at the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Croatia to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, Hrvoje Meštrić, PhD, Director-General at the Directorate of Science and Technology and representative of the Republic of Croatia in the CERN Council, Professor Mirko Planinić, PhD, Dean of the Faculty of Science and representative of the Republic of Croatia in the CERN Financial Committee and Mr. Vuko Brigljevic, PhD, from the Ruđer Bošković Institute, representative of the Republic of Croatia in the CERN Council.CERN has been recognized as a key organization in the field of fundamental physics, with the mission of providing a single infrastructure for particle accelerators and supporting cutting-edge research that shift the boundaries of science and technology. Republic of Croatia actively contributes to these efforts and has been proud to participate as an associate member of CERN since 2019.
During the ceremony, representatives of the Member States and associated CERN States, including representatives of the Republic of Croatia, visited the experiment ALICE, while the Director-general of CERN, Fabiola Gianotti, PhD, presented the organization’s key achievements and outlined a vision for future activities.
CERN is not only at the center of top science, but also is an excellent example of global cooperation that continuously contributes to the progress of humanity. This anniversary symbolizes a shared commitment to research, innovation and development. Our active role in CERN's research, experiments and activities not only strengthens national scientific, innovation and technological capacities, but also contributes to the global efforts to understand and improve science.
